| The hotel name is a
homage to the city : Bergamo was proclaimed Città
dei Mille ( The City of the Thousand ) because of its
contribution of men (167) to Giuseppe Garibaldi's 1000-man
expedition, was the highest in the country.
Bergamo people, among the others, were: Francesco Nullo,
General Garibaldi's right hand, Giuseppe Tironi, 1000-man
expedition's bugler and Luigi Adolfo Biffi, the joungest
hero, not sixteen-year-old yet, died in Calatafimi.
In the hall, a great number of original prints and
a lock of General Garibaldi's legendary blond hair,
are displayed in remembrance of those significant days. |
