BERGAMO FOR TOURISM
Bergamo often better known for its laboriousness
than for the infinite cultural attractions and historical,
artistic heritage it offers. The "Città dei Mille"
hotel is at the centre of everything that could interest the
visitors.
Bergamo preserves a historical, cultural and musical heritage
you might visit. The visit to Bergamo must perforce follow
a set of itinerary, with the Città Alta surrounded
by the city walls up on the hills and the Città Bassa
on the plain below. Visitors can discover the former as they
walk through the narrow, little medieval streets and squares,
with their Renaissance palazzos, the Old Main Square and the
adjacent cathedral courtyard and monuments such as the Cappella
Colleoni ; meanwhile a visit to the latter is indispensable
in order to see art gallery at the Accademia Carrara, followed
by a number of churches, home to important works of art, many
painted by Lorenzo Lotto.
The visit to Bergamo must also include the Gaetano Donizetti
theatre which is proud of having the richest tradition in
Lombardy after La Scala, it is also one of the most spacious
theatre hall in the Italian peninsula.
The Gaetano Donizetti theatre was the first one to be built
in brick in Bergamo and one of the first in the whole of Italy.
